How many times can we enter?

You can only enter a category once, and your first entry will be accepted but you can enter as many categories as you feel are appropriate for your business.

Do we have to be a member to enter?

No, the awards are open to all businesses with an ‘S’ postcode (South Yorkshire). But if you are out of these areas, you would need to be a Chamber member as the awards are open to all Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber members – regardless of the company location.

How do I enter?

Entry is really easy, you can download a word version of the entry form, to find this please visit the award you would like to enter and the form will be available to download or contact awards@brchamber.co.uk. Make sure you are fully aware of the entry criteria and you complete all of the sections.

How much does it cost to enter?

Entry is completely free, but we would hope to see you at the ceremony if you are shortlisted. The ceremony costs will be online shortly.

What is the judging process?

All entries are marked against the criteria set out in each award category. Each sponsor is eligible to judge a category or can nominate an alternative spokesperson. All categories are judged externally from the Chamber of Commerce.

Judging is based on your entry and you will not be contacted or visited by a judge to provide more information.

Judging takes place the week after the entry deadline, this year judging will take place W/C Monday, 25th September, 2023.

Please note: Feedback is not offered as part of the judging process.

Will the entry deadline be extended?

The entry deadline won’t necessarily be extended, please make sure to submit your entry early to ensure it is entered into the award category.

When will I find out if I have been shortlisted?

Once judging is complete (W/C 25th September), we will aim to let all entrants know whether they have been successful or not before Monday, 9thOctober, 2023

Top Tips

Look what you are good at, what you’ve achieved and your key activities – then choose a category that fits you best.
Start early! An entry takes time so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time so you are not rushed.
Evidence – Don’t make sweeping statements you can’t verify. Use figures, statistics and testimonials to back up your achievements.
Keep to the word count. It’s there for a reason, so make sure you don’t exceed it!
If you are entering more than one award don’t use the same entry. You may be able to reuse some information but it is unlikely the criteria will be the same.
Plan your entries – Source the information you need and identify who can help before you start.
Try not to get side-tracked – Keep checking the criteria to make sure your entry is relevant and you understand what the judges are looking for.
Keep it simple – Try avoiding jargon and unexplained acronyms. Remember, you are an expert in your business, the judges might not be.
Check, check and check again. Leave your entry for a few days and look over it with fresh eyes or better yet, get someone else to check over it.
Make sure you can meet the deadline – Don’t leave it until the last minute and waste your efforts!
